The George Washington University is a highly-political campus in the heart of DC. Many of us applied here because of the access and opportunity that DC brings. We have the Elliott School of International Affairs, the School of Media and Public Affairs, and a largely popular political science major. We have professors who have worked in journalism and politics. We have the biggest college Democrats and Republicans chapters of any university in the nation. The White House and National Mall are within walking distance from our dorms and classes.

Politics is central to GW. It is hard not to encounter it on our campus. This makes it all the more curious that GW does not have a publication in which any student can express their political opinions.

Even The Hatchet, our campus newspaper, does not make this option available. Their opinion section does not allow its writers to write about politics, unless the article relates to GW or DC.

Restricting opinion articles’ content is very limiting to passionate political voices. We as a University are highly political and opinionated. We are in the heart of our nation’s capital. We deserve the chance to express our diverse political views in writing.

That is why I am founding The GW Political Review, or GWPR. This will be a campus publication that allows any student of any ideology or affiliation to express ourselves and write opinion articles about politics. GW students must be able to write our conscience.

We can write about any political topic in The GWPR, whether or not it relates to GW or DC.

I hope that this organization will pique the student body’s interest and meet a significant need on campus. If you would like to contact us or submit an article idea, please email us at admin@thegwpr.com.
